Community Building & Multi-generational Environmental Education
The Kids Into Discovering Science (KiDS) Program is an outreach program that provides hands-on science education and outdoor experiences for fifth grade students in Lake County, a rural and diverse community in Northern California. The KiDS mission is to inspire the next generation of scientists, outdoor adventurers, and environmental stewards through place-based, hands-on experiential learning. We achieve this by delivering a 10-week curriculum to a STEM classroom and culminates in a field day at a local nature reserve
The KiDS program is run as a part of Hands on the Land, which functions to connect our undergraduate and graduate student participants with opportunities to volunteer in the 5th grade STEM classroom. It is a joy to see undergraduate students engage in vertical and horizontal mentorship by learning from graduate students and reserve managers during monthly trips and then re-investing their knowledge and experience into younger generations.
The KiDS program runs every Spring quarter, so stay tuned for more information on this page!
