Opportunities and Special Projects
In addition to restoring the landscape, a major goal of Hands on the Land is to give everyone the tools to be mindful, curious, and creative in how we might interact with and restore the natural environment. Through extra opportunities and special projects, our participants are empowered to organize and explore a mosaic of ways to connect to land, beyond physical labor.

Hands on the Land had the incredible honor of partnering with Indigenous culture-bearer Diana Almendariz to host a tule mat workshop at the Cache Creek Conservancy Tending and Gathering Garden. Participants had the privilege of hearing from Diana about the ways that tule gathering and use can improve marsh and riparian health, and had the chance to do some tule weaving and get hands-on experience processing the material.
