Visit Jepson Prairie

Portions of the Jepson Prairie Reserve are open to the public during daylight hours, year round. This is a sensitive wildlife area as well as a working ranch, so we ask that you respect the signs that indicate which areas that are closed. The following areas are open to the public:

  • The picnic area by the eucalyptus trees.
  • The trails that are found in the fenced area that is bound by the road, the railroad track, and the edge of the main vernal pool (Olcott Lake).
  • The road that traverses the property.

Olcott Lake is a protected area, so even if there is no water in the lake, please do not walk onto the dry lake bed.

Please note that dogs are allowed only on the road, on leash.

Docent Tours are held every Saturday and Sunday from mid-March through mid-May.

Directions

Jepson Prairie Reserve is approximately 10 miles south of Dixon, on Highway 113. Head south from Dixon. When Highway 113 turns east (left) continue straight onto Cook Lane. After a short distance you will cross railroad tracks and after this you will see the parking area by a stand of eucalyptus trees.

Drinking water is not available on the site. A portable restroom is available only during tour season (mid March through mid May).
